Non-Profit Impact

The United States has significant funds that they invest annually on many foreign affairs. For example, international countries receive billions of dollars each year from the United States government. In 2019, Afghanistan was the country that received the largest dollar amount of $4.89 billion. (McConville, Concern: USA, Foreign aid by country: who is getting the most - and how much?) This is a crucial investment for the United States and has a crucial impact on foreign countries. Countries take this money and invest a large percentage into military and terrorism prevention. However, the other percentage goes to national advancement. A percentage of this amount of money given should be invested in non-profit organizations such as Gavi to focus specifically on health initiatives.

Gavi is an organization that not only seeks to vaccinate countries, but also works to establish national health and grow socio-economic prosperity. GAVI’s mission statement is to, “save children’s lives and protect people’s health by increasing equitable use of vaccines in lower-income countries.” (GAVI: The Vaccine Alliance, Gavi’s strategy.) Gavi’s ultimate goal is to simply save lives. However, they also seek to graduate countries from low to middle-income. They do this by teaching countries how to sustain national health through vaccines and other healthcare. This establishes national stability, giving nations the opportunity to prosper economically since they are not as hindered by lack of health. Countries then are able to not only achieve, but maintain national health. Gavi provides a sustainable means to reach middle-income status as a country. This is not only positive for the nation itself, but for the world as a whole. Gavi’s method promotes global health as well as socioeconomic prosperity and advancement. (Gavi: the vaccine alliance, The Vaccine Goal.) However, like all things this program requires significant funds. This is where the United States is capable of making significant change on a global scale.
